CABTS delegation attends SCOP 2011

NEW YORK, USA—A 2-member CABTS delegation, headed by Mr. Wu Guoqiang, Vice President of CABTS, attended the 2011 Standing Conference of Presidents of International Council for Open and Distance Education (SCOP, ICDE) in New York, the United States from June 18th to 24th, 2011.

The theme of SCOP 2011 is “Open learning in a new economy”. The SCOP 2011 meeting focuses on how distance education can help to drive economic growth and social change through the innovative use of technology and through openness.

Dr. Frits Pannekoek, President of ICDE and President Alan R. Davis, State University of New York’s Empire State College chaired the meeting. Participants had extensive discussions on issues, including how policies and administration improve the quality of ICDE, how to broaden cooperation among open and distance education institutions, and how to uplift the quality of distance education through innovations in science and technology.

 

The meeting features keynote speech, Q&A session, small group discussions, panel discussion, and field visit in four days.

During the meeting, Vice President Wu and Dr. Pannekoek had a brief and friendly talk. After learning about the latest development and achievements of CABTS in recent years, Dr. Pannekoek expressed sincere appreciations to the outcomes made by CABTS on farmers’ education and training, and also his gratitude to the support given by CABTS to ICDE. The two sides both showed interests in continuing exchange and cooperation.

 

The meeting is hosted by State University of New York’s Empire State College, and attended by 68 delegates from 62 countries.
