CABTS delegation on distance education visits US

CABTS Executive Vice President Wang Shoucong headed a four-person delegation to the United States from May 3rd to 12th, 2012. The objective of the visit was to learn more about farmers’ distance and vocational education in the United States. During the visit, the delegation also attended the ADEC international seminar, and signed a new MOU on cooperation with ADEC.

From May 4th to 6th, the CABTS delegation visited the Oregon State University, an ADEC member, and learned on agricultural distance and vocational education and agricultural technology extension delivered by the University. Staff of the University made specific presentations on the design and development of on-line courses, the organization and management of on-line learning, the development of on-line learning modules, and animation design. The delegation also learned about how to self-develop a learning module based on Pachyderm, and had distance interactions with the University students on their on-line learning. Beside the University, the delegation also visited the agricultural technology extension center at Linn county of Oregon State, the horticulture park of Oregon State University, and a small family farm to study on agricultural education and agricultural technology extension in the United States.

From May 7th to 9th, together with other over 40 delegations from ADEC member universities or institutions, the CABTS delegation attended the ADEC international seminar at the Maryland State University. At the seminar, Vice President Wang and ADEC CEO Mrs. Janet Poley singed a new MOU on cooperation.

On May 10th, the delegation had a meeting with officials from FAS and agricultural technology extension agencies at the USDA. In addition, the CABTS delegation also visited the Economic and Commercial Counselor’s Office of the Embassy of China in the USA, and had a meeting with Counselor He Ning and First Secretary Chen Zhixin.

The visit was a full success and achieved the expected goals.
