The 21st AAOU Annual Conference was held in Malaysia's administrative capital, Putrajaya from 29 to 31 October 2007, which was hosted by the Open University Malaysia. Mr. Liu Yongquan, vice president of Central Agricultural Broadcasting and Television School (CABTS), Mr. Wang Baiwen and Ms. Wang Jing from the online education center of CABTS, Ms. Yu Haixia from the division of finance attended the Conference.
The theme of this annual conference is 'Empowering Asia through Partnerships in Open and Distance Education'. The Conference has received nearly one hundred papers from open and distance education institutes of Asia countries related to the sub-themes including the provision of learning support, theoretical and pedagogical model, assessment and quality assurance, technological innovation for interaction delivery, local culture and curricular adaptivity, management and policy development. The delegates had discussion and exchange from different points based on the themes. This conference offered a unique opportunity to examine the past, present and future of open and distance education, and to forge meaningful partnerships that will serve to empower Asia, now and in the future. Two papers from CABTS were presented at Parallel Paper Presentations titled 'Application of distance education means in education and training of farmers' and 'New Mode of Modern Distance Education in Rural China Satellite-based Transmission Technology'. The lecturers answered the questions and discussed with the delegates in interested subjects.
Before the Conference, invited by the Open University Philippine, the delegation visited successively the SEAMEO INNO TECH, SEAMEO SEARCA, Agricultural Training Institute, International Institute for Rural Reconstruction, UP Open University, IRRI (International Rice Research Institution), Knowledge Channel and etc. During the visiting, Mr. Liu introduced the basic information of agricultural education and rural distance in China to the organizations and institutions mentioned above respectively, as well as shown the web site of CABTS in English version. The delegation also visited the Media Production Center, Distance Education Center, Teaching Material Center, Courseware Production and Development Workshop of in above organizations, for better of the open university Philippines, supporting services to distance learning, application of education technology and etc. The two sides also had a deep and wide talk on the cooperation of farmer's education and language teaching.
