The 25th ICDE World Conference on Open and Distance Learning in 2013 was hosted by Tianjin Open University, China, 16-18 October 2013. Around a thousand delegates from 313 colleges or education institutes from 49 countries around the world and all provinces (autonomous regions or municipalities) in China. A 9-member CABTS delegation, headed by Vice President Tian Guishan, attended the Conference.
The theme of the Conference is "New Strategies for Global Open, Flexible and Distance Learning", and there are seven sub-themes: the culture of ODL; quality in ODL; educational technology in ODL; open education resources in ODL; study support in ODL; the regulatory environment and strategies for innovative, open and flexible learning; and assisted learning. Participants had in-depth discussions on how to use ODL in achieving education for all, equitable education and lifelong learning in the context of knowledge-based economy and the information era.
Four out of the six papers submitted by the CABTS were selected to present at the parallel sessions of the Conference, ranging from the application of distance learning resources in agricultural education, the modality of delivering door-to-door education to farmers, the status and prospect of multi-media materials in new vocational farmers’ training to farmers’ education and training work in China. And the paper titled “Use of modern media technologies in Farmers ODL--a case study on mobile multi-media database” was presented on the show board at the Conference venue. Moreover, CABTS delegates also had extensive exchanges and discussions with other participants on ODL and new vocational farmers’ training.
